Exterior Setup
The exterior of my self-built campervan is designed for practical, long-term travel across Australia — not just looks. Every part of the outside setup was built to improve usability on the road, from shade and outdoor living to external access, hot water, and storage.
This campervan exterior setup is built around quick camp setups, easy maintenance, and everyday comfort whether I’m parked in the bush, by the coast, or in a remote national park.
Here is my Fiat Ducato campervan review, the pros, cons & full-time van life in Australia.

Fiamma Awning & Outdoor Living Space
The full-length awning creates instant shade and weather protection, turning the side of the van into a practical outdoor living area. It’s designed for everyday use, quick camp setups, and longer stays in exposed or remote camps.

External Hot Water & Gas Setup
Hot water is powered by a mounted instant gas system, keeping the setup simple, accessible, and easy to service. Storing the gas bottle externally also saves interior space and makes day-to-day use more practical while travelling full-time.

Built for Full-Time Touring
The exterior layout is designed around access, simplicity, and reliability rather than aesthetics alone. Everything is positioned to make camp setup faster, maintenance easier, and daily life on the road more comfortable over long distances.
All The Latest
Interior Layout
The interior of my self-built campervan was designed for full-time travel, everyday comfort, and practical living on the road. Rather than chasing a perfect showroom build, the layout is built around how I actually use the space day to day while travelling across Australia.
From storage and workflow to natural light, seating, and movement through the van, every part of the interior layout was designed to make full-time campervan life feel simple, functional, and comfortable.

Designed for Everyday Living
The interior was built to feel open, practical, and easy to live in every day. With a simple layout, warm finishes, and enough space to move comfortably, it feels more like a small home than a temporary travel setup.

A Functional Campervan Layout
Every part of the van has a purpose, and the layout was designed to make daily routines easier — from cooking and relaxing to getting changed, charging gear, and moving around without the space feeling cramped.

Built for Full-Time Travel
The interior isn’t just designed to look good in photos — it’s built to handle full-time travel, changing weather, long driving days, and the small routines that make life on the road sustainable over time.

Kitchen & Cooking
The kitchen in my self-built campervan was designed to be simple, practical, and easy to use every day while travelling full-time across Australia. In a small space, the layout needs to work efficiently — whether I’m making coffee at sunrise, cooking dinner at camp, or packing things away before getting back on the road.
From bench space and storage to the sink, fridge, and cooking setup, every part of the campervan kitchen was built around everyday function rather than unnecessary complexity. Read about my entire campervan kitchen here.

Built for Everyday Cooking
The kitchen was designed to make everyday meals easy without taking up unnecessary space. It’s a simple setup that works well for coffee, quick lunches, and proper dinners while living on the road full-time.

Smart Storage & Bench Space
In a campervan kitchen, usable bench space and smart storage make a huge difference. This setup was built to keep cooking gear, food, and essentials organised while still leaving enough room to actually prepare meals comfortably.

Simple, Functional Kitchen Setup
From the sink and fridge to the cooking setup itself, everything was chosen to keep the kitchen simple, reliable, and easy to use on the road. It’s built for real daily use rather than just looking good in a van tour.
DIY Campervan Setup
Bed & Sleeping Setup
A comfortable bed setup is one of the most important parts of any self-built campervan, especially when you’re living in it full-time. After long driving days, early starts, and constant movement, having a space that feels reliable, comfortable, and easy to use every night makes a huge difference.
My campervan bed setup was designed to be simple, practical, and comfortable enough for everyday life on the road — without compromising too much space elsewhere in the van. Read an in-depth review of my bed and seating setup.

Built for Comfort
Good sleep matters more than most people expect in a campervan. This bed setup was designed to feel comfortable enough for full-time living, with enough space to properly rest, recover, and settle into daily life on the road.

A Simple, Practical Layout
The bed is positioned to work with the rest of the van layout, keeping the space functional without making everyday movement awkward. It’s a simple setup that balances comfort, accessibility, and efficient use of space.

Comfort Without Wasted Space
In a campervan, every bit of space matters. This bed setup was designed to stay comfortable without wasting valuable room, helping the van still feel practical for storage, movement, and everyday full-time use.
Off-grid Camopervan Setup
Electrical Setup
The electrical setup is what makes full-time off-grid campervan setup travel possible. From charging camera gear and running lights to powering everyday essentials, this system was built to be simple, reliable, and capable of handling life on the road across Australia.
My campervan electrical setup is based around solar, lithium battery storage, and practical everyday use rather than unnecessary complexity. It’s designed to keep the van self-sufficient for longer stays off-grid while still being easy to understand and maintain.

Victron Energy Electrical System
The van is powered by a Victron Energy setup, monitored and controlled through the Cerbo GX system. This gives me real-time visibility over battery health, solar input, charging, and overall system performance from one place.

Overhead Charging & Electrical Hub
The overhead cabinet houses key charging gear, fuse protection, and storage for batteries, cameras, drones, and everyday electronics. Keeping everything in one practical access point makes life on the road much easier.

Off-Grid Mobile Office Setup
This system also supports my ability to work remotely from the van, including charging and running the gear I use for editing, writing, and content creation.
That was a big part of the build — not just travelling, but being able to sustain life and work on the road.
Full-time Campervan Setup
Plumbing & Water
A reliable plumbing setup is a huge part of making full-time campervan setup travel comfortable and practical. From washing dishes and brushing teeth to showering off after a long day on the road, the water system needs to work simply and consistently without adding unnecessary complexity.
My campervan plumbing setup was designed around off-grid travel, everyday convenience, and easy access to clean water while travelling full-time across Australia. You can read the entire plumbing setup here.

Water Pump & Filtration System
The water system uses a practical pump and inline filtration setup, mounted in an accessible location for easier servicing and maintenance. Keeping everything simple and reachable makes a big difference when travelling full-time.

Fresh & Grey Water Storage
The van carries a generous amount of fresh and grey water, allowing for longer off-grid stays without needing constant refills. Water levels are monitored through the main system, making it easier to plan ahead while travelling.

Outdoor Shower Setup
The outdoor shower is mounted at the rear of the van, giving me a practical way to rinse off after beach days, hikes, or long days on the road. I intentionally skipped an internal shower to keep the living space more open and usable.

Rear Storage
Good storage makes a huge difference in a self built campervan, especially when you’re living in it full-time. The rear storage area is designed to keep essential gear organised, easy to access, and out of the way without wasting valuable space inside the van.
My campervan rear storage setup is built around practicality, helping me carry the tools, outdoor gear, spare parts, and everyday equipment I rely on while travelling across Australia.

Built for Practical Storage
The rear storage area is designed to hold the gear I actually use, rather than just packing in as much as possible. It keeps the setup practical, organised, and easier to live with day to day on the road.

Easy Access on the Road
The rear area also includes practical additions like the outdoor shower setup and rear clothesline. They’re small details, but they make day-to-day life on the road far easier.

Freezer & Deep Storage Drawers
A Bushman 30L freezer and custom deep storage drawers help keep food, gear, and essentials organised and accessible. This setup makes the rear garage feel like a functional extension of the van rather than just leftover storage space.
